Growing citizen science
In collaboration with 5 international partners, the CROPS project funded within the HORIZON 2030 framework aims to elevate citizen science in Europe by developing tools, protocols and guidelines to replicate and scale participatory science projects. OutBe leads the work package dedicated to dissemination and coordinates social media communications.

Marine Citizen Science Data Horizon
CS MACH1 is the first Horizon 2030 project to bring together in its partnership all 15 European leaders around the practice of citizen science at sea, with the aim to present a coordinated and multidisciplinary approach to create the first marine data network from citizen science projects, connecting existing infrastructure and content. OutBe within the project is co-leading the Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation work package and has major roles in connecting existing networks and demonstrating the value of data from citizen science.

Onde Blu is a project that brings together outdoor sports, well-being, and marine conservation. Through activities such as surfing, SUP, and kayaking, combined with citizen science, we engage the community in an experience that enhances physical and mental well-being while contributing to the monitoring of marine ecosystems.
Thanks to the collaboration between sports associations, scientific institutions, and local authorities, Onde Blu promotes active lifestyles, reduces sedentary behavior, and strengthens the connection between people and nature, following the One Health approach, which recognizes the link between human health and environmental health.

Portofino Seaweed Garden
In 2021, our local Portofino Seaweed Garden project was selected by the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) among 280 international projects to create a seaweed garden Ericaria amentacea within the Portofino Marine Protected Area. Portofino Seaweed Garden is an excellent example of citizen science: after an initial phase in the laboratory, the seaweed was planted in the MPA to be monitored and cared for by the local sporting community in an effort to communicate and raise awareness of environmental protection.
